Working in Acute and Primary Healthcare settings

12 March 2020

Across Education Partnership North East, our students take part in placements within acute and primary healthcare settings (only hospitals, GP surgeries). These placements are delivered in partnership with a wide range of healthcare employers and are important to our students and their learning.

To confirm, we currently have no confirmed cases of COVID-19.

However, at a time when our healthcare system is under immense pressure, the College has decided to postpone all placements with immediate effect from acute and primary healthcare settings (only hospitals and GP surgeries).

This measure will ensure that those receiving care are not put at any additional risk from the spread of infectious diseases, healthcare workers are not distracted from care giving and our students are protected from unnecessary risk. The College is working closely with our healthcare partners and continually monitoring the situation.

Any sessions being delivered within acute and primary healthcare settings are to be postponed with immediate effect and until further notice. This includes all trainer assessors conducting reviews, 1 to 1 meetings and delivery of English and maths in the workplace. Trainer assessors are expected to make full use of digital technologies to continue to support apprentices in the workplace and to conduct regular reviews.

Contact with the placement providers or the employers of the apprentices directly will be centrally controlled by the College. Students will also be told in a controlled method by the Student Progress and Development Managers, or by their employer if an apprentice.

If you have any queries, students are advised to contact their tutor in the first instance.
